Gwyneth Roberts

Before launching HedgeNews Africa in mid-2009, Gwyneth Roberts was the founding editor of AfricaHedge, the monthly newsletter published by HedgeFund Intelligence, part of the EuroMoney group. She developed the group’s coverage of the growing African alternative asset community, with an initial focus on South Africa’s hedge fund industry.

The magazine launched in mid-2006 and ran successfully for three years, building a strong reputation for delivering independent news and data on the South African/African space, and successfully hosting the annual AfricaHedge awards and conference.

Gwyneth joined HedgeFund Intelligence in 2005, working previously as the deputy editor of AsiaHedge, based in Hong Kong. Prior to that, she spent seven years at the South China Morning Post, most recently as editor of the paper’s weekly investment section Sunday Money.

She has a BA in English, Fine Arts (Rhodes University) and a post-graduate diploma in journalism (Rhodes University).

Mark Caldwell

Mark Caldwell is a founding partner of HedgeNews Africa. Mark has had a long career in the journalism and publishing industry, and is a founding director of a Hong Kong-based company that provides media and communications services to blue-chip multinationals. Mark has worked for a number of newspapers and magazines around the world and was as an editor with the Time Warner group in Hong Kong from 1997 to 2003. He has a B.Journ degree (Rhodes University, South Africa, 1983).

Aiden Davis

Aiden Davis is the data and operations manager at HedgeNews Africa. He graduated from the University of Fort Hare with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in Economics. He is also a member of the Institute of Financial Markets.

Lindsay Mitchell

Lindsay Mitchell is the event manager of the HedgeNews Africa Symposium and Awards. She has an indepth knowledge of the alternative asset management industry, having spent four years at Investment Data Services, based in Cape Town, which provides administration services to the industry. Lindsay has previously managed events at Meerendal Wine Estate and offers ongoing project management expertise via her own company, Business Basics. She has a Bachelor of Economics degree and an MBA from Stellenbosch University.

Maria Da Silva

Maria Da Silva is contributing editor for HedgeNews Africa. She started writing for the magazine in October 2011 and has over 12 years experience in financial services. She has worked in different areas of the finance industry including alternative investments, private banking, stockbroking, and institutional and personal investments. Maria started her career working in London for a US-based independent financial adviser. She also held various roles at Deutsche Bank and Bank of Bermuda, later HSBC, after it was acquired in 2004. After working in London for seven years, Maria returned to South Africa in 2005 working for Momentum’s investment division. In May 2010, she decided to pursue a career as an independent writer. Maria has a post-graduate diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in London and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
